Ukraine Establishes New National Holiday to Honor Drone Forces

Ukraine has announced the establishment of a new national holiday dedicated to its drone forces, marking June 11 as the Day of Drone Forces. This initiative, highlighted by Prime Minister Yulia Svyrydenko, recognizes the unique role of these forces in modern warfare.

In her statement via Telegram, Svyrydenko emphasized that Ukraine is the first nation to create a separate military branch focused on drone operations. She noted that these forces have demonstrated innovative strategies that challenge conventional military theories.

“On June 11, we will celebrate the Day of Drone Forces—honoring those who have changed the rules of engagement and have redefined military operations. This day is for those who conduct reconnaissance, plan missions, and execute strikes,” Svyrydenko stated.

The Prime Minister further elaborated on the capabilities of the drone forces, mentioning their effectiveness in conducting long-range operations that extend over a thousand kilometers into enemy territory. She underlined that their actions not only target the adversary but also serve to enhance global awareness and support for Ukraine.

Context of New Holidays in Ukraine

The decision to establish this holiday follows a broader trend in Ukraine to recognize significant cultural and military contributions. Recently, the Ukrainian Parliament approved a resolution to create a Day of Ukrainian Music, which will be celebrated annually on the third Saturday of September. This initiative was driven by representatives from the music industry, who highlighted the need for state support in promoting Ukrainian culture amid ongoing conflicts.

The chosen date for the music holiday holds historical significance, as it coincides with the 1989 “Chervona Ruta” festival in Chernivtsi, where the national anthem “Shche ne vmerla Ukraina” was performed publicly for the first time after being banned.
