U.S. Imposes New Sanctions on Iran Targeting Individuals and Cryptocurrency Exchanges

The United States announced new sanctions against Iran on Tuesday, affecting individuals and cryptocurrency exchanges. This move is part of ongoing efforts to curb Iran’s economic activities linked to its nuclear program and other regional activities.

The U.S. Treasury Department specified that the sanctions target four Iranian nationals and four cryptocurrency exchanges: Nobitex, Bitpin, Ramzinex, and Wallex. The sanctions are designed to restrict financial transactions involving these entities.

Additionally, the Treasury warned that foreign financial institutions and individuals could face sanctions if they engage in certain transactions with the listed exchanges.

Last week, the U.S. had already implemented sanctions against Iran related to oil trade, affecting eight vessels transporting Iranian crude oil and petroleum products to global markets. More than 15 companies, including Worth Seen Energy Limited and Mehdiyev Trading in Hong Kong, as well as Symphony Shipping and Maritime Management in Dubai, were also sanctioned.

The U.S. Treasury explained that some of the Iranian organizations under sanctions utilize oil sales infrastructure controlled by the Iranian armed forces to procure petroleum products outside of Iran.

Recent reports indicate that Iran is seeking a temporary agreement with the U.S. to alleviate economic pressure and stabilize its situation.

The U.S. has expanded its sanctions on Iran, now targeting individuals and cryptocurrency exchanges, while previously imposing restrictions on oil trade. This reflects ongoing efforts to limit Iran's economic activities linked to its nuclear program.
