Ukraine is intensifying its international collaboration to restore energy infrastructure following extensive Russian attacks. During a recent visit to Latvia, Ukrainian Prime Minister Yulia Svyrydenko discussed the potential transfer of equipment for critical energy facilities.
Svyrydenko highlighted that enhancing Ukraine’s energy sector remains a primary target for Russian assaults. In her discussions, she noted that recent attacks targeted not only residential buildings, hospitals, and schools but also energy and gas infrastructure.
In Riga, Svyrydenko met with Latvia’s Prime Minister to negotiate increased supplies of necessary equipment to help restore Ukraine’s energy system. The discussions included the expedited transfer of equipment from Latvian combined heat and power plants to aid in the recovery of energy facilities in Ukrainian cities.
Additionally, Ukraine is actively preparing for the upcoming heating season and is working to secure international support for the restoration and protection of its energy system.
Massive Russian Strike on June 2
On the night of June 2, the Russian army launched a combined massive strike on Ukraine using missiles and drones. Major cities such as Kyiv, Dnipro, Kharkiv, Zaporizhzhia, and Sumy were targeted. The attacks resulted in casualties and destruction.
According to the Ukrainian Armed Forces, the Russian military deployed 656 strike drones of various types and launched 73 missiles from air, sea, and ground platforms. In the ensuing air defense engagements, Ukrainian forces intercepted 602 drones and 40 missiles. However, the attack resulted in hits from 30 ballistic missiles, three cruise missiles, and 33 strike drones across 38 locations, along with debris from drones falling in fifteen areas.
Ukraine is enhancing its international partnerships to rebuild its energy infrastructure following significant Russian attacks. Recent discussions in Latvia focused on equipment transfers to support this critical recovery effort amid ongoing military threats.
