The Moldovan Ministry of Foreign Affairs summoned the temporary chargé d’affaires of the Russian Embassy, Airat Abdullin, to deliver a formal protest following a drone incident in the Romanian city of Galați, which authorities in Chișinău have labeled a threat to regional security.
In a statement, the ministry condemned the incident, attributing it to ongoing Russian aggression against Ukraine. Officials emphasized that such occurrences pose significant risks to both regional stability and civilian safety, expressing full solidarity with Romania.
Moldova also urged the Russian Federation to cease its military actions against Ukraine, withdraw its troops from Ukrainian territory, and adhere to international laws regarding sovereignty and territorial integrity.
The incident occurred during a Russian airstrike on Ukraine on the night of May 29, when a Russian drone crashed into a ten-story residential building in Galați, igniting a fire and resulting in injuries to two individuals.

Following this, Foreign Minister Oana-Silvia Ţoiu announced that the Russian ambassador would be summoned for discussions.
NATO has also responded, with Secretary General Mark Rutte maintaining communication with Romanian authorities and condemning Russia’s actions.
In light of the incident, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen stated that Russia’s war against Ukraine has crossed another boundary, reaffirming her complete solidarity with Romania and its citizens.
