Trump Optimistic About Iran Deal and Strait of Hormuz Reopening Next Week

U.S. President Donald Trump expressed confidence that an agreement with Iran regarding a ceasefire and the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz could be reached as early as next week.

During a recent statement, Trump noted that a “minor hiccup” occurred on June 1 due to Iran’s dissatisfaction with Israeli attacks in Lebanon. However, he indicated that the situation has since been resolved.

“Today there was a minor issue, but I resolved it quickly… I spoke with Hezbollah and told them that shooting is prohibited, and I will talk to Bibi (Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu) to reinforce that shooting is off-limits, and they both stopped firing at each other,” Trump stated.

He further mentioned that a peace agreement with Iran could be more advantageous than a military victory.

“This is a very complex matter. We’re dealing with a truly large country that is negotiating. There is significant hostility, so it’s not easy for them. It’s not easy for us either. But we are getting what we need,” the President added.

Regarding the timeline for finalizing a memorandum of understanding about the Strait’s reopening, Trump suggested that it could happen next week.

He clarified that he has not yet agreed to the deal as he needs to gain some leverage first.

Currently, the U.S. and Iran are working on a framework agreement that includes the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz among other issues.

If the agreement is finalized, both parties would have 60 days to establish a comprehensive peace deal, which would address critical concerns, including Iran’s nuclear program.

According to Reuters, Iran is advocating for a temporary agreement with the U.S. to alleviate economic pressure and stabilize its situation without addressing the most sensitive aspects of its nuclear program.

President Trump is optimistic about finalizing a deal with Iran next week that would address the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz and other key issues. The negotiations aim to stabilize relations and address Iran's nuclear program within a broader peace framework.
