Russian Drone Attack Targets Turkish Vessel in Black Sea

In the early hours of May 29, Russian forces launched a targeted assault on a cargo ship en route from a port in the Odesa region to Turkey. The attack resulted in injuries to some crew members.

According to the Ukrainian Navy, the Russian military deployed strike drones against the cargo vessel ANT, which is registered under the Vanuatu flag. The ship, owned by a Turkish company, was transporting goods from Odesa to Turkey.

The drone strike ignited a fire in the ship’s superstructure.

Prompt action by the Maritime Search and Rescue Service and units of the Ukrainian Navy helped to quickly contain and extinguish the blaze.

Reports indicate that two crew members sustained injuries. They were evacuated by Ukrainian Navy boats and transported to a medical facility for treatment.

The Ukrainian Navy emphasized that Russia continues to pose a threat to international shipping in the Black Sea by targeting civilian infrastructure and commercial vessels.
