IMF Mission Begins First Review of Extended Funding Program in Ukraine

On May 27, an International Monetary Fund (IMF) mission arrived in Kyiv to initiate the first review of the extended funding program. This was confirmed by Priscilla Tofano, the IMF’s resident representative in Ukraine.

“The IMF mission, led by Gavin Grey, has commenced meetings with Ukrainian authorities and other partners as part of the first review of the extended funding program and Article IV consultations for 2026,” Tofano stated.

The discussions are expected to center on macroeconomic policy and essential structural reforms.

It is notable that on May 26, the Ukrainian Parliament failed to pass amendments to Bill No. 12360, which aimed to introduce value-added tax (VAT) on international shipments valued up to 150 euros. The implementation of this tax was considered a key aspect of agreements for continued financial support from the IMF.

This story is developing.

The IMF has commenced its first review of Ukraine's extended funding program, focusing on macroeconomic policy and structural reforms. The discussions follow a recent setback in the Ukrainian Parliament regarding proposed tax amendments crucial for ongoing financial support.
