The Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) has apprehended a Russian collaborator in the Donetsk region, who allegedly harbored a Russian soldier responsible for directing artillery fire against Ukrainian forces. The operation resulted in the death of the soldier, identified by the call sign “Shaman,” during a confrontation with Ukrainian troops.
According to the SBU, the soldier infiltrated the town of Lyman to conduct reconnaissance on the positions of Ukrainian defense forces. He established contact with a local woman, who was unemployed, and subsequently sheltered him in her home.
The woman is accused of assisting the soldier by relaying information about Ukrainian troop movements. Under the pretense of taking walks, she reportedly gathered intelligence on the locations of Ukrainian defense units.
She then transmitted geolocation data to the soldier, who communicated the coordinates to his command for artillery strikes. The SBU has stated that “Shaman” served in the 31st Motorized Rifle Regiment of the 67th Motorized Rifle Division, part of the Central Military District of Russia.
Prior to the operation, SBU officials documented the reconnaissance activities of the duo and implemented measures to secure the positions of Ukrainian defenders in Lyman.
The detained woman has been charged under Article 111, Part 2 of the Ukrainian Criminal Code for treason committed in a time of war. She is currently in custody and faces a potential life sentence, along with the confiscation of her property.
