Zoom Communications has significantly increased its stake in the artificial intelligence startup Anthropic, with the value of its investment now reaching $1.27 billion. This follows an initial investment of $97 million made earlier this year, which has proven highly lucrative for the video conferencing giant.
According to a report from Bloomberg, the surge in valuation is based on Anthropic’s recent funding rounds, with the company expected to close another round next week that could value it at over $900 billion. The current valuation stems from a funding round in February that pegged Anthropic at $380 billion.
Zoom’s partnership with Anthropic, initiated in early 2023, aims to integrate AI capabilities into its platform, particularly through the use of the Claude chatbot models. Since the partnership began, Zoom has been actively enhancing its offerings with AI features, including the introduction of a work-based AI assistant.
In addition to the initial investment, Zoom has committed an extra $46 million to Anthropic in recent months. While the company announced a total of $51 million in new strategic investments, it did not specify how much of that amount was allocated to Anthropic.
Zoom Communications' investment in Anthropic has grown significantly, now valued at $1.27 billion after an initial $97 million stake. The partnership focuses on integrating AI capabilities into Zoom's platform, with further funding rounds anticipated to increase Anthropic's valuation even more.
