A novel adaptation of the popular video game GTA V has been launched in Ukraine, enabling users to intercept Iranian Shahed drones. This initiative allows participants to hone their skills in a virtual urban environment.
Ukrainian instructors have integrated interception missions for Shahed drones into a specially modified server. This project is designed to assist pilots in maintaining their skills outside of traditional military platforms.
The updated server is based on GTA V Legacy and utilizes the multiplayer framework FiveM for its operation.
Simulator Features:
- Identification of aerial targets on an expansive map;
- Extended pursuit of enemy objects;
- Simulation of direct hits with FPV drones;
- Tactical training in urban settings.
Operators practice their reaction times, learning to engage targets during flight, skills that will be applicable in real-world missions.
While the developers emphasize that GTA V cannot replace professional military equipment, they clarify that military personnel are trained on specialized systems.
“It is important to note that real training for interceptor crews utilizes dedicated military simulators, such as ‘Obriy’,” representatives from WeTrueGun stated.
The project serves specific purposes, with experts identifying several key objectives:
- Psychological decompression for experienced pilots;
- Support for active FPV control skills;
- Conducting bold experiments without the risk of losing equipment;
- Entertainment following demanding shifts.
This initiative within GTA V is part of a broader educational ecosystem. The WeTrueGun center is preparing a new generation of drone operators intended to serve in Ukraine’s security and defense forces.
Training for prospective contract soldiers in the Armed Forces of Ukraine is provided free of charge, made possible through the support of concerned individuals. Funding for the project is sourced from charitable organizations and private donors.
A new modification of GTA V in Ukraine offers a virtual training platform for drone operators, focusing on skill maintenance and psychological support for pilots. This initiative is part of a larger educational effort to prepare future operators for service in the Ukrainian military.
