Explosion at MOL Oil Refinery in Hungary Results in Fatalities and Injuries

An explosion occurred at the MOL oil refinery, operated by Hungary’s largest multinational oil and gas company, resulting in one fatality and several serious injuries. This incident was confirmed by Hungarian Prime Minister Péter Madár.

According to Madár, both Energy Minister István Kapitány and MOL’s President and CEO Zsolt Hernádi are en route to the site of the explosion. The incident took place during the restart of the Olefin 1 plant at the MOL Petrolkémia facility in Tiszaújváros.

The fire caused by the explosion has been contained, and efforts to extinguish it are ongoing. MOL Group reported that several individuals sustained serious injuries, and one person has died as a result of the incident. Investigations are currently underway to determine the circumstances surrounding the explosion.

The mayor of Tiszaújváros, György Fülöp, stated that there is no immediate need for public safety measures following the incident.
