Intense Combat Activity Reported on Multiple Fronts in Ukraine

Since the start of the day, Ukrainian military reports indicate 197 combat engagements across various fronts. The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine provided this update in their evening briefing.

The most significant Russian offensives occurred in the Pokrovsk direction, where 43 attacks were launched near 12 settlements, with one assault still ongoing. In contrast, the Gulyaipole direction saw nearly half as many attacks, totaling 23, with one engagement still in progress.

Russian forces have been conducting assaults towards several locations, including Novy Zaporizhzhia, Dobropillia, Rybne, Zlahoda, Zaliznychne, Tsvitkove, Vozdvizhivka, Verkhnya Tersa, Staroukrainka, Gulyaipole, and Charivne.

In the Konstantynivka direction, Russian troops attacked Ukrainian positions 19 times today, targeting areas near Ivanopillia, Illinivka, Pleshchiivka, Vylne, Toretske, Rusyn Yar, Stepaniivka, and Konstantynivka itself.

Combat operations are also ongoing in the Northern Slobozhansky, Kursk, Southern Slobozhansky, Kupiansk, Lyman, Sloviansk, Kramatorsk, Oleksandrivka, Orikhiv, and Dnipro directions.

On May 19, Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Oleksandr Syrskyi, indicated that potential offensive operations by Russian forces from Belarus are a real possibility. He assessed on May 8 that the Russian army had intensified its offensive actions across the entire front, with the Pokrovsk direction remaining the most tense, where approximately 106,000 personnel are concentrated.

Analysts from the U.S.-based Institute for the Study of War noted in their May 10 report that Russian forces have not made any significant battlefield progress over the past year, while Ukrainian military forces have achieved successes.

The Ukrainian military reports a surge in combat engagements, particularly in the Pokrovsk direction, with ongoing assaults from Russian forces. Despite the intensity of these attacks, analysts suggest that Russian troops have failed to secure significant advances on the battlefield over the past year.
