Microsoft Teams has rolled out a series of updates aimed at improving user experience and optimizing workflow within its platform. These enhancements, part of the Microsoft 365 Copilot Frontier initiative, include advanced AI tools and new functionalities designed to streamline communication and collaboration.
One of the standout features is the introduction of a virtual secretary powered by AI. This tool can manage incoming calls for users who are busy or away from their desks. It effectively filters spam, identifies the purpose of calls, and organizes follow-up tasks in the user’s calendar. Currently, this feature is available in English on both desktop and web versions.
For those who miss meetings, the Teams Premium subscription now offers an intelligent recap feature, which provides a visual timeline of recorded meetings. This timeline highlights moments when specific participants are mentioned, allowing users to jump directly to relevant parts of the discussion.
In addition, Microsoft has enhanced chat moderation tools, enabling users to bundle up to five messages, images, or interactive elements into a single package. This makes it easier to share data or task lists across different work chats without disrupting the conversation flow.
The integration of Microsoft Loop modules allows users to create dynamic tables, task lists, or text blocks directly within chats or channels. Participants can edit these components in real time, with changes synchronized across other Microsoft applications like Outlook and Whiteboard.
Another notable feature is the Meet Now function, which enables users to initiate personal online calls without needing to invite others. This is particularly useful for dictating notes or rehearsing presentations, with recordings automatically saved to OneDrive for later review.
Teams also includes a live transcription feature that captures audio in real time, clearly attributing dialogue to individual speakers. This aids users who may join meetings late or need to step away momentarily, as they can quickly catch up on the discussion.
For users joining calls from noisy environments, the new Voice Isolation feature utilizes AI to identify the user’s voice profile and filter out background noise, including other voices. Setting up this profile takes about 30 seconds in a quiet space.
To enhance multitasking during long calls, Teams now allows users to pin the application window above other running programs, ensuring easy access to microphone and camera controls while maintaining visual contact with colleagues.
Additionally, mobile devices can now be connected to ongoing meetings as supplementary sources, functioning as wireless webcams or presentation remotes. When connected, the system automatically mutes the mobile device to prevent audio feedback.
Lastly, the Share to Teams feature in Outlook simplifies the process of forwarding emails and attachments directly to Teams channels or group chats, eliminating the need to download files to a computer first.
Microsoft Teams has introduced several new features aimed at enhancing productivity and collaboration. These updates include AI-driven tools for managing calls, dynamic meeting recaps, and improved chat functionalities, all designed to streamline user workflows.
