Ukraine’s Stance on Peace Talks: No Territorial Concessions

Ukraine has firmly stated that it will not make any territorial concessions in peace negotiations with Russia. This position was reiterated by the country’s Foreign Minister, who emphasized that any acceptable peace must be just and sustainable.

During a recent discussion, the minister highlighted, “Ukraine will not accept any formula or initiative that involves compromising our territorial integrity and sovereignty.” He stressed that Ukraine’s approach is to maintain its current positions, aiming for a stable ceasefire that would facilitate broader peace talks.

Polish Foreign Minister Radoslaw Sikorski, who participated in the discussion, echoed the sentiments of his Ukrainian counterpart. He asserted that the end of the conflict will only be achievable when Russian leadership recognizes the futility of attempting to restore the Russian Empire.

Since the beginning of 2026, Ukraine has engaged in several rounds of negotiations with Russia, alongside the involvement of the United States. A key unresolved issue remains the control of non-occupied territories in Donbas. Moscow demands the withdrawal of Ukrainian forces, while Kyiv proposes to freeze current positions along the front line. The U.S. has suggested the establishment of a free economic zone in these areas.

Ukraine's Foreign Minister has reiterated the country's stance against territorial concessions in peace talks with Russia, emphasizing the need for a just and sustainable resolution. Ongoing negotiations involve complex issues, including control over non-occupied territories in Donbas.
