During a recent event hosted by the Economic Club of New York, U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken refuted claims that allies have exploited the United States regarding its support for Ukraine. He emphasized that for every dollar the U.S. has invested in Ukraine, European and other partners have contributed one and a half dollars.
“For every dollar we invested in Ukraine, Europeans and others invested a dollar and a half. Therefore, the assertion that they took advantage of the situation in Ukraine is simply untrue,” Blinken stated.
Blinken further noted that a significant portion of American aid to Ukraine has remained within the U.S. economy, as it has been used to procure weapon systems for Kyiv or replenish the Pentagon’s own stockpiles that were transferred to Ukraine.
In addition, Blinken assessed the advancements in Ukraine’s defense sector, stating that the country has taken the initiative in military technology and is setting trends even for NATO partners, particularly in the development of drones and new battlefield solutions. He described Russia’s war against Ukraine as a catalyst for change in Western armies, which are now compelled to rapidly adapt their defense strategies to the realities of modern warfare.
Antony Blinken has served as the U.S. Secretary of State under President Joe Biden from January 2021 to January 2025. During his tenure, the U.S. has coordinated international support for Ukraine following Russia’s full-scale invasion.
Antony Blinken's recent remarks clarify the financial dynamics of U.S. support for Ukraine, highlighting the substantial contributions from European allies. He also emphasized Ukraine's growing military capabilities and its influence on NATO defense strategies.
