Germany and US Align on Iran Nuclear Policy, Says Foreign Minister

Germany’s Foreign Minister, Johann Wadephul, has stated that Berlin and Washington share a unified objective concerning Iran, particularly regarding nuclear weapons and the Strait of Hormuz.

In a recent social media update, Wadephul revealed that he held a telephone conversation with Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi. During this discussion, the German minister emphasized Berlin’s commitment to resolving issues through diplomatic negotiations.

“As a close ally of the United States, we share the same goal: Iran must completely and verifiably abandon its nuclear weapons and immediately open the Strait of Hormuz,” Wadephul conveyed to his Iranian counterpart.

CNN has noted that these remarks from the German Foreign Minister indicate a strengthening of ties between Germany and the United States amid ongoing diplomatic tensions.

Earlier reports from RBC-Ukraine indicated that U.S. President Donald Trump announced plans to withdraw significantly more than the initially stated 5,000 American troops from Germany, as previously detailed by the Pentagon.

This announcement followed comments from German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, who criticized the U.S. for lacking a clear strategy to end the conflict and suggested that the U.S. is facing “humiliation” from Iranian leadership.

Germany's Foreign Minister has reiterated the country's alignment with the U.S. on Iran's nuclear ambitions, emphasizing diplomatic solutions. This statement reflects ongoing discussions about military presence and strategic relations between the two nations.
