Concerns Raised Over Appointment of Ruslan Krasnov in Dnipro Regional Council

The proposed appointment of Ruslan Krasnov to head a newly established military-civil cooperation and territorial defense committee in Dnipro has sparked controversy. Krasnov, the son of a prominent politician and business partner of Oleg Tsaryov, is facing scrutiny regarding his military service and qualifications.

Dnipro’s Deputy Mayor Andriy Denysenko made the announcement on social media, expressing his discontent with the situation. He remarked, “While the war continues and blood is still being shed, individuals with questionable credentials are climbing the career ladder, taking advantage of the sacrifices made by true defenders of Ukraine.”

Denysenko highlighted that support for Krasnov’s appointment is being actively solicited within the regional council. Proponents argue that Krasnov, who leads his father’s party faction in the council, is a serving member of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) and thus deserving of a leadership role during wartime. However, Denysenko countered this claim, stating that this notion is an affront to those who genuinely defend the country.

Further scrutiny of Krasnov’s military service reveals discrepancies. Denysenko pointed out that despite his social media presence featuring images of him with weapons and military equipment, Krasnov does not serve on the front lines. Reports indicate that he has been seen frequently at his father’s restaurant in Dnipro and upscale venues in the capital, Kyiv, during his service.

Media sources have previously reported that Krasnov is assigned to military unit 4804 of the Separate Special Operations Center “East,” which focuses on resistance training in eastern Ukraine, including collaboration with partisan groups. However, the nature of his service has raised questions, with claims that he has created social media content portraying himself as engaged in combat operations, while in reality, he has been stationed away from frontline conflict.

Concerns have emerged regarding the influence of his father in securing favorable conditions for Krasnov’s military service, suggesting potential corruption involving his commanding officer, Colonel Yuriy Vasylyk.
