On Sunday, April 26, the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant experienced another blackout, marking the 15th such incident since it was occupied in 2022.
The facility lost external power supply once again, with reports indicating that the “Ferosplavna-1” power line was disconnected, leading the plant to enter blackout mode. For approximately an hour and a half, the plant relied on 19 backup diesel generators for power.
Energoatom, the state-owned enterprise managing Ukraine’s nuclear power plants, emphasized that this incident raises significant concerns for both nuclear and radiation safety in Ukraine and across Europe. Each blackout poses increasing risks, underscoring the urgent need for the plant to return to full Ukrainian control.
The company reiterated that restoring control to Energoatom is essential for the safe operation of Europe’s largest nuclear facility, which is crucial for regional security.
