On April 22, a tragic bus accident occurred near the Bulgarian-Turkish border, resulting in the deaths and injuries of Ukrainian citizens. The bus, registered in Ukraine, was transporting 39 individuals, including two drivers and one escort, on a route from Odesa to Istanbul.
According to the Ukrainian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, preliminary reports indicate that the driver lost control of the vehicle, causing it to veer off the road and overturn. This incident led to the fatalities of two Ukrainian nationals, while 16 others sustained injuries of varying severity.
Emergency medical assistance was provided at the scene, with some passengers being hospitalized in local medical facilities. Others were given temporary accommodation following the accident.
The Ministry confirmed that an investigation into the circumstances of the crash is ongoing. Ukrainian consuls are in contact with law enforcement agencies to monitor the situation. Additionally, arrangements are being made for the affected passengers to continue their journey on April 23 using an alternate bus.
The Ministry emphasized that the case remains under their oversight, reflecting their commitment to ensuring the well-being of their citizens abroad.
Earlier reports from Bulgarian media indicated that at least two individuals lost their lives in the accident near the town of Malko Tarnovo, close to the border crossing into Turkey.
