Turkey Seeks to Facilitate High-Level Peace Talks Between Ukraine and Russia

During a meeting with NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte in Ankara, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan announced efforts to organize a summit aimed at fostering peace between Ukraine and Russia.

Erdoğan expressed Turkey’s commitment to ending the conflict through diplomatic means, stating, “We are working towards resuming negotiations and initiating talks at the leadership level.” This statement was released by the Turkish presidential administration following the meeting.

Earlier, Ukraine had reached out to Turkey, requesting assistance in arranging a high-level meeting with Russia. Turkey has maintained communication with both nations since the onset of the full-scale war.

In Ankara, officials emphasized Turkey’s ongoing diplomatic initiatives concerning the war in Ukraine, as well as efforts to alleviate tensions surrounding Iran.

During the discussion with Rutte, Erdoğan also underscored the significance of maintaining transatlantic ties, urging NATO allies in Europe to assume greater responsibility for regional security.

Turkey is actively working to facilitate peace talks between Ukraine and Russia, with President Erdoğan emphasizing the need for diplomatic engagement. The country continues to play a crucial role in maintaining communication with both sides since the conflict began.
