The Progressive Bulgaria Party, led by former pro-Russian President Rumen Radev, has achieved a significant victory in the parliamentary elections held on April 19, garnering 44.59% of the votes. This result positions the party to secure an outright majority in the National Assembly.
According to the Central Election Commission of Bulgaria, which has reported the completion of the vote count, the GERB-SDS coalition followed in second place with 13.3% of the votes. The pro-Western coalition, Continue the Change – Democratic Bulgaria, ranked third, capturing 12.6%.
Additionally, the liberal Movement for Rights and Freedoms (DPS) entered parliament with 7.1% of the votes, while the pro-Russian Revival party received 4.2%. These results indicate that the Progressive Bulgaria Party is likely to secure between 130 and 131 mandates in the 240-seat parliament.
This election marks the eighth parliamentary election in Bulgaria within the past five years. Radev expressed gratitude to the Bulgarian citizens who supported his party in these early elections.
In response to the election outcome, the Kremlin has stated that it is premature to discuss any potential warming of relations with the European Union following the victory of the Progressive Bulgaria Party.
