The Ukrainian government has announced a significant investment aimed at enhancing safety in educational institutions. Prime Minister Yulia Svyrydenko confirmed that the government will allocate 5 billion UAH for the construction of shelters in schools by 2026.
This funding will support the establishment of 113 shelters, financed through state subsidies and international assistance under the World Bank’s LEARN program. Svyrydenko made the announcement via Telegram, emphasizing the government’s commitment to providing secure learning environments.
In addition to school shelters, over 972 million UAH will be dedicated to constructing 18 underground facilities for kindergartens in several regions, including Vinnytsia, Dnipropetrovsk, Zaporizhia, Kyiv, Mykolaiv, Odesa, Sumy, Kharkiv, and Kherson.
“Tens of thousands of children across the country will be able to study in-person or in a blended format under safer conditions, without interruptions due to air raid alerts. The priority will be given to frontline communities and facilities that need to be completed this year,” Svyrydenko stated.
