Germany to Provide Ukraine with New Military Aid Packages

Germany has announced a new set of military assistance packages for Ukraine, which will include air defense systems, long-range weapons, drones, and ammunition. This commitment was made by Chancellor Friedrich Merz during a joint press conference with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.

Chancellor Merz emphasized the significance of this aid, particularly in the realm of air defense, stating, “Today, we have once again agreed on new packages of assistance, primarily focusing on air defense systems, long-range weapons, drones, and ammunition.” He noted that the collaboration is beneficial not only for Ukraine but also for Germany’s own security, highlighting that no other army in Europe has had such extensive military experience in recent decades.

Merz also mentioned the joint production of drones at a high technological level and announced an agreement for data exchange between the defense ministries of both countries. This cooperation aims to enhance digitalization and the provision of government services.

President Zelensky confirmed that ten agreements were signed with Germany, including arrangements for PAC-2 missiles and IRIS/T launch systems. He added that discussions were held regarding the production of air defense missiles within Europe to ensure that local manufacturing can meet all necessary requirements.

“We must ensure that our capabilities allow Europeans to produce everything necessary for the defense of Europe. Our European industry, technological base, and military-political capabilities must be sufficient to provide reliable protection for every country in Europe under any circumstances. This includes the ability to produce anti-ballistic air defense systems in necessary quantities and to protect against drones and other aerial threats. We have spoken with leaders broadly and are working to achieve this outcome. Ukraine is ready to contribute,” Zelensky stated.

Germany is set to enhance its military support for Ukraine through new aid packages that include advanced air defense systems and long-range weaponry. Both leaders emphasized the importance of European collaboration in defense production to meet regional security needs.
