Ukraine has inaugurated its first agricultural hub in Africa, located in the Republic of Ghana. This center for food processing and distribution is part of the “Food from Ukraine” initiative aimed at bolstering global food security.
According to Deputy Prime Minister Yulia Svyrydenko, despite the ongoing conflict, Ukraine remains a vital player in ensuring global food security. The country is shifting towards a new model of cooperation that goes beyond grain exports to include the establishment of production and logistics centers in partner nations.
The agricultural hub has been established through collaboration between Ukrainian agribusiness and the Ghanaian government, following agreements made during the “Food from Ukraine” conference in November 2025.
“This represents a new format of our global presence, where humanitarian support is combined with the development of partnerships and local economies,”
Svyrydenko stated.
She further explained that Ukrainian products will be integrated with local goods to create food packages for distribution. The next phase will focus on enhancing processing, packaging, and portioning directly in Ghana.
The initial food packages include locally produced rice and pasta made in Ghana from Ukrainian flour. During the hub’s opening, 4,000 food packages were distributed to vulnerable groups, including widows in Ghana.
The Ukrainian government views Ghana as a key partner in West Africa for advancing humanitarian programs and expanding its trade presence in the region.
“We are ready to share our expertise, technologies, and experience in increasing yields to jointly strengthen global food security,”
Svyrydenko concluded.
Ukraine's establishment of an agricultural hub in Ghana marks a strategic move to enhance food security and foster international cooperation. This initiative reflects Ukraine's commitment to supporting vulnerable populations while expanding its trade footprint in West Africa.
