Trump made these remarks on his social media platform, Truth Social, where he reiterated the need for heightened maritime security in the region surrounding Iran. He indicated that U.S. forces would respond forcefully to any vessels that breach the established limitations.
The president specified that such military actions could involve the same systems used to combat illegal maritime activities, including drug trafficking. He stressed that the warning applies to all ships that might infringe upon the restrictions in place.
On April 11, negotiations between U.S. and Iranian representatives in Pakistan failed to yield an agreement to halt hostilities, primarily due to Iran’s refusal to abandon its nuclear program. Following this, Trump announced that the U.S. Navy would initiate a blockade of the Strait of Hormuz, targeting any vessels that pay fees to Iran for passage.
