Ukraine and Norway Strengthen Defence Cooperation Focused on Air Defence and Drones

Ukraine and Norway have established key priorities for their defence cooperation, emphasizing the enhancement of air defence systems and the systematic provision of drones to the front lines.

During recent discussions, officials outlined the main areas of collaboration, which include the development of air defence capabilities, scaling up defence innovations, and supporting the Czech initiative for ammunition procurement. Special attention was given to the construction of a “small air defence” system utilizing interceptor drones.

According to Mykhailo Fedorov, March has been the most productive month for the “Army of Drones.Bonus” program, which has improved target engagement effectiveness and increased pressure on Russia’s economic potential.

Norway has committed to funding a project aimed at supplying Ukrainian units with drone systems. This decision is intended to ensure a stable monthly supply of essential equipment to the military.

“This systematic solution will guarantee a minimum number of drones each month and will directly impact effectiveness on the front line,” Fedorov stated.

The minister also extended an invitation to his Norwegian counterpart to visit Ukraine, aiming to showcase the technological capabilities of the army in real combat conditions.

Looking ahead, the next meeting of the Ukraine Defence Contact Group, known as “Ramstein,” is scheduled for April 15. It is expected that the main topics will include further strengthening of Ukraine’s air defence and the development of drone systems.

Additionally, following previous agreements with allies, Ukraine has received a shipment of PAC-3 missiles for the Patriot air defence system from Germany. President Volodymyr Zelensky confirmed that these missiles are now on Ukrainian soil, enhancing the country’s aerial protection.

Ukraine and Norway have outlined key areas for defence collaboration, focusing on air defence enhancements and drone supply. The upcoming Ramstein meeting is expected to address further support for Ukraine's military capabilities.
