UK Prime Minister Discusses Global Leaders’ Use of WhatsApp for Crisis Coordination

UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer has revealed that world leaders are increasingly utilizing WhatsApp group chats to discuss international issues, including the ongoing conflict in Ukraine.

Starmer acknowledged his reservations about the messaging platform but noted its necessity for effective communication among global leaders. “There are many WhatsApp groups for different leader coalitions. I have to say, I’m not a fan of WhatsApp. I often find myself lost in these discussions and endless messages. However, we have created such groups for various formats, especially regarding issues like Ukraine, so we can stay connected,” he stated.

The Prime Minister emphasized that these groups facilitate rapid communication among politicians, enabling them to respond swiftly to unfolding events. He pointed out that such chats have been established to enhance collaboration on various international matters.

When asked about the most active leaders on the platform, Starmer highlighted Finnish Prime Minister Alexander Stubb as a standout example, noting his ability to effectively engage other leaders in conversation.
