Intense Fighting Reported in Eastern Ukraine as Russian Forces Increase Attacks

On April 8, Ukrainian military officials reported a significant escalation in combat activity along the front lines, with 131 clashes recorded since the start of the day. The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine stated that Russian forces conducted 40 airstrikes, deploying 140 guided bombs, and utilized 4,510 kamikaze drones, alongside 2,678 artillery shellings targeting both civilian areas and military positions.

Nearly half of the combat incidents occurred in three main areas: the Kostiantynivka and Pokrovsk directions in Donetsk, and the Huliaipole direction in Zaporizhzhia. In the Kostiantynivka sector, Ukrainian defense forces successfully repelled 18 enemy assaults near Kostiantynivka, Stepanivka, Novopavlivka, Pleshchiivka, Illinivka, and Sofiivka, with one confrontation still ongoing.

In the Pokrovsk direction, Russian troops launched 24 attacks, attempting to advance in the vicinity of the settlements of Rodynske, Pokrovsk, Kotlyne, Muravka, Hryshyne, Udachne, and Filia, as well as towards Bilitske, Novooleksandrivka, and Serhiivka, with one engagement continuing at the time of reporting.

Meanwhile, in the Huliaipole sector, there were 15 assaults directed at the towns of Pryliuky, Dobropillia, Tsvitkove, Zaliznychne, Huliaipilske, Varvarivka, and in the areas of Myrnyi and Huliaipole, with two clashes still in progress. Russian airstrikes targeted various locations including Lisne, Nova Pole, Vozdvizhivka, Pryliuky, Verkhnya Tersa, Liubytske, Hirke, Huliaipilske, Barvinivka, Shyroke, and Charivne.

Fighting also continued in several other regions, including the Northern Slobozhansky and Kursk, Southern Slobozhansky, Kupiansk, Lyman, Sloviansk, Kramatorsk, Oleksandrivka, and Dnipro directions.

Recent statements from Russian military leadership suggest a strategic aim to capture Kostiantynivka by April 25. Dmitro Zaporozeets, a spokesperson for the 11th Army Corps, indicated that flanking maneuvers have not yet succeeded, and ongoing battles within the city are hindering rapid occupation.

Ukrainian Commander-in-Chief Oleksandr Syrskyi noted on April 7 that Russian forces are attempting to improve their tactical position in the Kostiantynivka-Druzhkivka area by combining small infantry group attacks with large-scale drone strikes.

The conflict in eastern Ukraine has intensified, with Ukrainian forces reporting over 130 clashes and significant Russian air and drone assaults. Military leaders indicate ongoing battles are complicating Russian efforts to capture key towns.
