Cameroon Confirms Deaths of Soldiers in Ukraine Conflict

On April 6, Cameroon announced that Russia has confirmed the deaths of 16 Cameroonian soldiers involved in the ongoing conflict in Ukraine.

The Russian Foreign Ministry acknowledged the loss of these soldiers, stating that measures had been taken to contact the families of the deceased.

Additionally, families of six other Cameroonian nationals residing in Russia were encouraged to reach out to the ministry regarding urgent matters related to their situations. However, the statement did not provide further details.

In March of the previous year, Cameroon’s Minister of Defense instructed military leadership to implement stringent measures to prevent desertion among both active and retired Cameroonian military personnel.

It is noteworthy that Russia has been actively recruiting individuals from African nations to participate in the war against Ukraine, often presenting these opportunities as training or legitimate civilian employment.
