U.S. and Iran Expected to Reach Agreement Amid Ceasefire Calls

Negotiations between the United States and Iran are reportedly nearing a resolution, with expectations of a significant agreement emerging soon. Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has urged both parties to adhere to a two-week ceasefire to facilitate diplomatic efforts aimed at a lasting end to the conflict.

In a recent statement, Sharif appealed to U.S. President Donald Trump to extend the deadline for Iran to open the Strait of Hormuz by an additional two weeks. This request comes as regional sources indicated to CNN that “good news is expected from both sides” and that discussions are being directly managed by Pakistan’s Army Chief, General Asim Munir.

According to reports, an agreement is anticipated to be finalized tonight, coinciding with the evening hours in Kyiv. The White House has confirmed that Trump has been briefed on the proposed ceasefire and that a response is forthcoming.

In a brief interview with Fox News, Trump acknowledged that the U.S. is engaged in “tense negotiations” regarding the situation with Iran but refrained from providing specific details. Meanwhile, a senior Iranian official has indicated that Iran is favorably considering Pakistan’s request for a two-week ceasefire.

It is important to note that Trump had previously issued an ultimatum to Iran, demanding the opening of the Strait of Hormuz by 3:00 AM on April 8. Failure to comply would lead to U.S. military action targeting bridges and power stations across Iran.

Recent media reports have suggested that intermediaries proposed a 45-day truce; however, both parties declined this option. Just hours before the ultimatum’s expiration, Trump intensified his rhetoric, warning that a “whole civilization” could be at risk in Iran, although he expressed a desire to avoid such an outcome.

The U.S. and Iran are on the brink of an agreement as diplomatic efforts intensify, with a ceasefire proposal from Pakistan gaining traction. President Trump has issued an ultimatum to Iran regarding the Strait of Hormuz, while negotiations continue amid rising tensions.
