On April 6, Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) announced the death of Major General Majid Khademi, the head of its intelligence division, following an attack believed to be orchestrated by foreign forces.
According to IRGC officials, Khademi was targeted in a strike that they attribute to the United States and Israel. The exact location of the incident has not been disclosed, but reports indicate that multiple airstrikes occurred in areas surrounding Tehran on the same morning.
Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz confirmed that Khademi was killed as a result of an Israeli operation. He emphasized that Israel would continue its efforts to track down Iranian leadership, stating, “The IRGC targets civilians, and we eliminate terrorist leaders. Iranian leaders live with the knowledge that they are targets. We will continue to hunt them down one by one.”
Khademi took over the IRGC’s intelligence division in June 2025, following the death of his predecessor, Mohammad Kazemi, who was also killed in an Israeli strike.
In a related context, on April 5, U.S. President Donald Trump issued a warning to Iran, threatening to target its power plants and bridges if Tehran did not allow the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz by the following Tuesday. U.S. intelligence suggests that Iran is unlikely to agree to open this crucial shipping route, as control over it remains a significant leverage point in negotiations with the United States.
