Alchevsk Metallurgical Plant Ceases Operations Following Drone Strikes

The Alchevsk Metallurgical Plant, located in the temporarily occupied Luhansk region, has halted operations after a series of drone attacks. The facility had been contributing to the Russian military-industrial complex.

The Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) reported the incident on their official Facebook page. This marks the second attack on the plant within a month, carried out by operatives from the SBU’s Donetsk and Luhansk departments, in collaboration with pilots from the 1st Separate Center of Special Operations.

“As a result of the strikes, blast furnaces, key production workshops, distillation columns, gas pipelines, and electrical substations essential for the plant’s operations were damaged. Due to the inflicted damage, the plant has ceased operations,” the SBU explained.

The Alchevsk plant has been utilized by the Russian military for the production of weaponry used against Ukraine. The SBU noted that products from this facility are supplied to the Russian Uralvagonzavod, where T-90M “Proryv” tanks and Msta-S howitzers are manufactured.

In March 2026, Ukrainian Defense Forces confirmed two strikes on the Alchevsk Metallurgical Plant. Following the strike on March 20, damage to facilities involved in the production and repair of armored steel was reported, and a fire broke out on March 30 after a series of attacks.

The Alchevsk Metallurgical Plant has suspended operations due to drone strikes that damaged key infrastructure. This facility has been integral to Russia's military efforts against Ukraine.
