The Iranian government has refuted claims that President Masoud Pezeshkian reached out to U.S. President Donald Trump to request a ceasefire. This assertion was dismissed as misinformation by Iranian officials.
According to spokesperson Tabatabai, Iran’s stance on safeguarding its territorial integrity against aggression remains unchanged. He characterized the reports regarding a ceasefire appeal as “lies of criminals.”
Tabatabai emphasized that the Islamic Republic’s position on national defense and the conditions for ending the imposed war has not altered, stating, “We do not pay attention to the delusions and lies of criminals.” He further remarked that the Iranian people are “determined, steadfast, and united in defending their homeland,” asserting that unity is crucial for Tehran’s success.
This Iranian response followed a statement from Trump on his social media platform, Truth Social, where he claimed that Iranian leadership had initiated contact with Washington. Trump did not specify any names but noted that the outreach came from a “new president of Iran,” whom he described as “much less radicalized and much smarter than his predecessors.”
Masoud Pezeshkian has been in office since 2024. Recent reports from Axios indicated that U.S. and Iranian officials are discussing the possibility of a ceasefire, although Washington is prepared to consider this only under specific conditions.
Additionally, U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio stated that the conflict with Iran is approaching a “final stage.” He acknowledged that hostilities in the Middle East would not cease immediately but indicated that the U.S. sees a pathway to conclude the conflict.
Furthermore, reports from the Wall Street Journal suggest that President Trump has expressed willingness to halt military actions against Iran, even without the immediate reopening of the strategically significant Strait of Hormuz, deferring this issue to a later date.
Iran has denied allegations that President Masoud Pezeshkian requested a ceasefire from the U.S., labeling the claims as false. This comes amid ongoing discussions between U.S. and Iranian officials regarding potential terms for ending hostilities.
