C-3PO Head from Star Wars Sells for Over $1 Million at Auction

The head of the iconic C-3PO robot from George Lucas’s 1980 film, “Star Wars: Episode V – The Empire Strikes Back,” has been sold at auction for more than $1 million. The sale was reported by The Hollywood Reporter.

During Propstore’s spring auction of entertainment memorabilia, the C-3PO head achieved a final price of $1,058,400, surpassing items from notable films such as “Jaws,” the “Lord of the Rings” trilogy, “Pirates of the Caribbean,” “Top Gun,” and “Batman Begins.”

Propstore confirmed that this particular C-3PO head is the only known example from the film that has entered the collectibles market. This is not the first time a Star Wars item has fetched a seven-figure sum at auction.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, memorabilia from the Star Wars franchise frequently commands high prices at auctions. For instance, a lightsaber used by Darth Vader sold for $3.654 million, while an X-wing fighter model fetched $3.135 million.

In total, Propstore’s auction featured over 250 significant lots from various films and television series, generating $6.5 million in sales. A collection of memorabilia from Steven Spielberg’s “Jaws” alone brought in over $600,000.

The recent auction of the C-3PO head marks a significant event in the collectibles market, reflecting the enduring popularity of Star Wars memorabilia. The auction's overall success underscores the high value placed on iconic items from classic films.
