In the early hours, Russian military forces launched an attack on a gas extraction facility operated by Naftogaz in the Poltava region of Ukraine, resulting in a temporary halt of operations.
Naftogaz confirmed that their facility, crucial for gas production, sustained significant damage due to the assault. The company reported that the attack led to a fire, which emergency services are currently working to extinguish.
Serhiy Koretsky, the head of Naftogaz, expressed gratitude to the emergency services for their prompt response. He noted that since the beginning of this year, Russian forces have targeted Naftogaz’s infrastructure approximately 40 times.
This incident follows previous attacks, including strikes on March 11, when Russian forces targeted oil transportation infrastructure in southern Ukraine, aiming to disrupt non-Russian oil supplies to Europe. Additionally, on March 8, drones were used to attack Naftogaz’s gas extraction operations in the same region.
Russian forces have once again targeted Naftogaz's gas extraction infrastructure in Poltava, causing significant damage and halting operations. This attack is part of a broader pattern of assaults on Ukrainian energy facilities this year.
