Hungarian airline Wizz Air has addressed recent confusion stemming from a social media post suggesting a return to Ukraine. The company clarified that the announcement was intended to promote a recruitment campaign aimed at offering career opportunities for Ukrainians, rather than indicating a resumption of flight services.
In a statement to the Ukrainian media outlet Suspilne, Wizz Air emphasized that the primary objective of the campaign was to support the development of Ukraine’s civil aviation sector. The airline stated, “The campaign was not intended to imply an immediate resumption of flights to or from Ukraine.” This clarification comes in light of the ongoing conflict in Ukraine, which has resulted in a closed airspace, preventing the airline from resuming operations.
“Wizz Air remains committed to the Ukrainian market and looks forward to the opportunity to return as soon as circumstances allow. We sincerely hope for a swift end to the war so that we can restore flights and reconnect Ukraine with the rest of Europe. To facilitate this, we need to conduct preparatory work, engaging Ukrainian professionals and supporting the local economy,”
the airline added.
Wizz Air has expressed its intention to be among the first airlines to resume services to Ukraine once conditions permit. The company also apologized for any misunderstandings caused by the campaign, stating that all related materials have been removed from their platforms. They plan to review the content to ensure clearer communication in the future.
Previously, Wizz Air had launched a promotional campaign on Instagram with the message, “Ukraine, we are coming home.” This announcement included a hyperlink directing users to a form for participating in a virtual information session for pilots regarding opportunities in Ukraine.
Founded in 2003, Wizz Air is a low-cost airline based in Hungary, specializing in affordable flights primarily across Europe, as well as select routes to the Middle East and Asia.
Wizz Air has clarified that its recent social media post about returning to Ukraine was solely a recruitment campaign, not an indication of resumed flights. The airline remains committed to the Ukrainian market and aims to support the local economy amidst ongoing conflict.
