Latvian Defense Ministry Releases Images of Downed Ukrainian Drone

The Latvian Ministry of Defense has shared images of debris from a Ukrainian drone that crashed near the village of Dobruchina in the Kraslava region, approximately 12-15 kilometers from the Belarusian border.

The photographs reveal various metal fragments and the engine of the drone. It appears that the device exploded after colliding with the top of a tree, as indicated by the damaged crown and charred branches visible in the images. Grass was also reported to be burning near the explosion site.

During a briefing, military officials stated that this drone was one of two that entered Latvian airspace overnight. The first drone reportedly flew for 24 minutes before returning to Russian territory.

Latvian President Edgars Rinkēvičs confirmed the identification of the drone as Ukrainian. This incident follows reports of several Ukrainian drones straying into Estonian airspace. According to Estonian authorities, these drones were believed to be targeting the Russian port of Ust-Luga, located less than 30 kilometers from Estonia. The most direct route from Ukraine to key Russian ports near St. Petersburg runs along the eastern borders of Latvia and Estonia.

The Latvian Ministry of Defense has confirmed the crash of a Ukrainian drone near the Belarus border, following its unauthorized entry into Latvian airspace. This incident is part of a broader pattern of Ukrainian drones inadvertently crossing into neighboring countries, raising concerns about airspace security in the region.
