Oleg Doroshchuk Wins Gold in High Jump at World Indoor Championships

Ukrainian high jumper Oleg Doroshchuk has made history by winning his first medal at the World Indoor Athletics Championships, claiming gold in Torun.

This marks Doroshchuk’s third appearance at the indoor championships. In his previous two outings, he finished in the top five, securing fourth place in 2024 with a jump of 2.24 meters and fifth place last year with a personal best of 2.28 meters.

In the final, Doroshchuk faced off against 11 other competitors, including South Korea’s Woo Sang-hyuk, Czech athlete Jan Štefela, and Jamaican jumpers Romayne Beckford and Raymond Richards.

At the height of 2.26 meters, only half of the participants remained. Doroshchuk, along with Woo and Richards, cleared the height on their first attempts. As the bar was raised to 2.30 meters, Doroshchuk took the lead by successfully clearing it on his first try, while his competitors struggled.

Ultimately, only Doroshchuk and Mexico’s Erik Portillo managed to clear 2.30 meters. The gold medal was decided at 2.33 meters, a height that no athlete could clear, allowing Doroshchuk to secure the title based on fewer attempts.
