A Ukrainian delegation has arrived in the United States ahead of crucial negotiations aimed at addressing the ongoing conflict with Russia. These talks are scheduled for March 21 and will involve discussions on sanctions and potential future trilateral negotiations.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky announced the delegation’s visit during a speech on March 19, emphasizing the need to resume meaningful discussions to bring an end to the war. He indicated that the Ukrainian team, which includes key political figures, is already en route to the U.S.
“The negotiation pause has ended — it’s time to make progress. We are committed to ensuring that the talks are substantive. The political segment of our negotiation team is on its way. We anticipate meetings in the United States this Saturday,” Zelensky stated.
During these discussions, the Ukrainian representatives will focus on the U.S. sanctions policy, preparations for potential trilateral talks involving the U.S., Ukraine, and Russia, and the overall strategy to conclude the conflict. Zelensky noted that Ukraine seeks more clarity on the scheduling of these negotiations, which have faced delays due to developments in the Middle East.
Additionally, Zelensky highlighted the importance of maintaining a close dialogue with the U.S., particularly concerning American decisions on sanctions against Russian energy. He expressed concerns that any easing of restrictions could pose risks for Ukraine.
Russian officials, including spokesperson Dmitry Peskov, have confirmed that Russia will not participate in the upcoming talks, stating that the discussions will be conducted in a bilateral format. However, he did not rule out the possibility of returning to trilateral negotiations in the future.
As the Ukrainian delegation prepares for these critical talks, they will be represented by several high-ranking officials, including the Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council, Oleksiy Danilov, and the head of the President’s Office, Andriy Yermak.
A Ukrainian delegation is set to meet with U.S. officials on March 21 to discuss strategies for ending the ongoing conflict with Russia. Key topics will include sanctions and preparations for future trilateral negotiations, while Russia has confirmed it will not participate in these talks.
