The Hungarian government has implemented a ban on entry for three Ukrainian citizens, including two military personnel and a political analyst, following allegations of threats made against Prime Minister Viktor Orbán. This decision was announced by Gergely Gulyás, head of the Prime Minister’s Office.
According to Gulyás, the individuals affected by the ban are Lieutenant General Hryhoriy Omelyanchenko, military officer Yevhen Karas, and political analyst Borys Tizenkhausen. The Hungarian official stated that these individuals allegedly threatened Hungary with military action and directed threats toward Orbán and his family.
Gulyás specifically noted that Omelyanchenko had made threats to “kill” the Prime Minister, suggesting he should consider the safety of his children and grandchildren. Tizenkhausen reportedly discussed the potential deployment of Ukrainian forces to Hungary. Gulyás further claimed that sufficient grounds for prohibiting Karas’s entry stem from his alleged leadership of a neo-Nazi group, which he stated also posed threats to Orbán.
This incident occurs against a backdrop of heightened tensions between Hungary and Ukraine. Recently, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy issued a warning to an unnamed individual blocking a €90 billion EU credit to Ukraine, widely interpreted as a reference to Orbán. Hungary has been obstructing the disbursement of these funds, which has drawn criticism from various quarters.
In a show of solidarity, Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico publicly supported Orbán following Zelenskyy’s remarks. Meanwhile, the European Commission has expressed disapproval of Zelenskyy’s comments regarding Orbán, labeling them as unacceptable.
The Hungarian government has banned three Ukrainians from entering the country due to alleged threats against Prime Minister Viktor Orbán. This action highlights ongoing tensions between Hungary and Ukraine, particularly concerning financial aid issues.
