The Qatari Ministry of Foreign Affairs condemned the Iranian strike, labeling it a serious escalation and a blatant violation of Qatar’s sovereignty, posing a direct threat to national security and regional stability. The ministry emphasized Qatar’s neutral stance amidst the ongoing conflict involving Israel and the United States on one side and Iran on the other.
According to unnamed sources cited by Reuters, Tehran has issued evacuation warnings for several oil facilities in Saudi Arabia, the UAE, and Qatar, including the Ras Laffan refinery, indicating potential attacks in the coming hours. QatarEnergy confirmed significant damage resulting from the missile strikes on the industrial site, noting that it is the world’s second-largest exporter of liquefied natural gas.
Previously, Qatar condemned an Israeli strike on a special economic zone in Iran’s Bushehr, which houses a significant portion of Iran’s gas extraction industry. The South Pars field, considered the largest in the world, partially extends into Qatari territory. The United Arab Emirates also criticized the Israeli attack.
Majed Al-Ansari, a spokesperson for Qatar’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, characterized the attack on South Pars-related facilities as a dangerous and irresponsible act, warning that assaults on energy infrastructure threaten global energy security, regional stability, and the environment.
In retaliation, Iran has threatened to target energy facilities throughout the Persian Gulf region following Israeli strikes on its gas field. Since February 28, Israel and the U.S. have been conducting strikes against Iran, with U.S. President Donald Trump stating that the objective is to dismantle Iran’s military capabilities and prevent Tehran from developing nuclear weapons. Iran has retaliated against Israel and U.S.-aligned countries, while Axios reported that the U.S. has urged Israel not to target Iran’s energy infrastructure.
