Ukrainian Energy Operator Faces Termination of Emergency Assistance Agreement with Slovakia

Nek “Ukrenergo,” the Ukrainian energy transmission operator, has received notification from Slovakia’s SEPS regarding the unilateral termination of their emergency energy assistance agreement. This contract is set to expire in May.

The reasons behind SEPS’s decision to cancel the agreement have not been disclosed by its management, according to the communication.

Ukrenergo emphasized that it has adhered to the terms of the contract and has operated in a spirit of neighborliness and respect for European legal standards. The company stated, “We have never violated any contractual conditions with SEPS.”

Emergency assistance from Slovakia has been utilized by Ukrenergo infrequently and in limited volumes, with the last instance occurring in January of this year.

Despite the termination of this agreement, Ukrenergo assured that there would be no repercussions for Ukrainian consumers. Furthermore, the decision will not affect the commercial exchange of electricity between Ukraine and Slovakia.

Electricity imports from Slovakia to Ukraine will continue without restrictions, in line with the outcomes of daily and long-term auctions for the allocation of cross-border capacity.

The termination of the emergency assistance agreement between Nek "Ukrenergo" and Slovakia's SEPS has raised questions, yet Ukrenergo assures that this will not impact electricity imports or consumers in Ukraine. The company maintains compliance with contractual obligations and emphasizes ongoing commercial exchanges.
