On Saturday afternoon, March 14, Russian forces targeted the city of Zaporizhzhia, striking a residential neighborhood and causing significant damage.
According to local officials, the attack began around 3:28 PM, when alerts were issued regarding the potential use of guided aerial bombs. Shortly after, explosions were reported in the region.
Initial reports indicated that one person was injured, and a multi-unit residential building was damaged, leading to a fire. However, the situation quickly escalated, with the head of the regional administration confirming that the number of injured had risen to ten, with one individual confirmed dead. Among the injured is a 17-year-old boy.
The State Emergency Service (SES) of Ukraine also confirmed the attack, detailing the aftermath: “As a result of the shelling at one location, two private homes were damaged, and a vehicle caught fire. At another site, garages covering an area of 100 square meters are ablaze. Additionally, windows of a nearby nine-story residential building were shattered,” the SES reported.
Rescue teams and local authorities have shared images depicting the destruction caused by the assault.
This incident is part of a broader pattern of regular attacks on Zaporizhzhia and its surrounding areas, where Russian forces have employed drones, aerial bombs, and missiles. Just days earlier, on March 11, an aerial bomb struck a high-rise building, causing damage to neighboring structures and resulting in injuries among residents.
Additionally, on the night of March 7, a barrage of cruise missiles, ballistic weapons, and drones targeted Zaporizhzhia, with reports indicating that even an infant was injured during that attack.
Russian airstrikes on Zaporizhzhia have resulted in multiple casualties and significant property damage, continuing a trend of assaults on the city. Local authorities are responding to the aftermath as the situation develops.
