Russian Strikes on Kyiv Region Result in Casualties and Damage

On the night of March 14, Russian forces launched an attack on the Kyiv region, resulting in increased casualties and significant damage to infrastructure, as reported by Mykola Kalashnyk, head of the regional military administration.

According to Kalashnyk, the death toll has risen to four, with 15 residents injured, three of whom are in critical condition and undergoing surgery. All affected individuals are receiving necessary medical care.

The strikes targeted various populated areas, impacting residential buildings, educational institutions, businesses, and critical infrastructure. The most extensive damage occurred in the Obukhiv and Brovary districts, where approximately 30 properties have been reported damaged.

Kalashnyk detailed the destruction across four districts:

  • In the Vyshhorod district, a high-rise building and warehouse facilities were damaged.
  • The Brovary district saw damage to two private homes, a dormitory, non-residential office and production buildings, a restaurant, and a garage cooperative, along with several vehicles.
  • In the Obukhiv district, two schools, a kindergarten, three private residences, a high-rise building, and various non-residential and production facilities were affected.
  • A private house was damaged in the Bucha district.

Kalashnyk noted that information regarding the extent of the destruction continues to emerge, with the number of injured expected to rise.

Russian military forces have been consistently targeting Ukrainian cities and civilian infrastructure using various types of weaponry, including strike drones, missiles, and multiple rocket launch systems.

Ukrainian authorities and international organizations classify these attacks as war crimes, asserting that they are deliberate in nature. Strikes on essential services and healthcare facilities aimed at depriving civilians of electricity, heating, water supply, communication, and medical assistance are viewed as indicative of genocidal actions.

The Russian government denies that its military conducts targeted strikes on civilian infrastructure, asserting that it does not intentionally harm civilians or destroy hospitals, schools, and essential utilities during the ongoing conflict.

Recent Russian strikes on the Kyiv region have resulted in casualties and extensive damage to civilian infrastructure. Authorities report ongoing assessments of the situation as the number of injured increases.
