US Navy to Escort Oil Tankers in Strait of Hormuz, Trump Announces

President Donald Trump announced on March 13 that the United States Navy will soon begin escorting commercial oil tankers through the Strait of Hormuz. This statement was made during a press interaction at Andrews Air Force Base.

When questioned by reporters about the timeline for these naval escorts, Trump responded, “it will happen soon, very soon.” His comments come amid concerns regarding potential increases in fuel prices among voters.

In response to inquiries about energy costs, Trump expressed optimism, stating he anticipates a significant drop in energy prices once the current situation resolves. He emphasized the necessity for the United States to address nuclear threats originating from the Middle East and beyond.

Reporters also sought Trump’s views on Russian President Vladimir Putin’s proposal to store uranium belonging to Iran. Trump declined to comment, stating, “I cannot talk about that.”

Military Operations Against Iran

On February 28, Israel launched an attack on Tehran, prompting Trump to declare that American forces had initiated a “major combat operation” against Iran to eliminate perceived threats from the Iranian regime. He accused Iranian authorities of funding and training militants in Syria, Lebanon, Iraq, and Palestine.

According to Trump, the objective of the military operation is to dismantle Iran’s missile industry and naval capabilities, thereby preventing any destabilization efforts worldwide.

The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) has reportedly launched missiles and drones towards Israel and attacked U.S. military bases in Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates.

In light of the U.S. military actions, French President Emmanuel Macron called for an urgent meeting of the United Nations Security Council. The European Union reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring regional security and stability in the Middle East.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky stated that it is fair to give Iranians a chance to rid themselves of a “terrorist regime” and to guarantee safety for all nations affected by attacks from Iran.

On March 1, the IRGC announced the commencement of what it termed the “most destructive offensive operation in the history of the Islamic Republic” against Israel and U.S. military bases. Trump warned the Iranian regime to abandon these plans, threatening a “very strong response.”

On March 2, U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio indicated that the next phase of military operations against Iran would be even more devastating.

On March 6, Trump called for a complete change in Iran’s leadership, mentioning he had several candidates in mind for a “good leader.”

On March 8, Iran’s Assembly of Experts elected Mojtaba Khamenei, the son of the late Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, as the third Supreme Leader of the Islamic Republic. Trump declined to comment on this election, stating only, “We will see what happens.” Previously, he had remarked that the new Iranian leader would not last long without the approval of the White House.

President Trump has announced that the U.S. Navy will soon escort oil tankers through the Strait of Hormuz, amid ongoing military operations against Iran. The announcement follows heightened tensions in the region and concerns over fuel prices.
