Hungary’s Fidesz Party Sees Surge in Polls Ahead of April Elections

Recent polling data indicates a notable increase in support for Prime Minister Viktor Orbán’s Fidesz party, which now stands at 39%. Despite this rise, the opposition party Tisza maintains a commanding lead with 53% of respondents indicating they would vote for them.

The survey, conducted by the research center 21 on behalf of 24.hu, reveals that this is the highest approval rating for Fidesz since October 2024. The polling targeted “certain” voters, those who have committed to participating in the upcoming elections.

Meanwhile, the party Mi Hazánk (Our Homeland) is hovering just above the threshold needed to enter parliament, garnering support from 5% of those surveyed. Based on these results, the research center predicts a decisive victory for Tisza if elections were held this Sunday, estimating they could secure around 115 parliamentary seats. Fidesz is projected to win approximately 78 seats, while Mi Hazánk may obtain 6.

The polling took place from March 2 to March 6, with a sample size of 1,200 participants. Hungary’s parliamentary elections are scheduled for April 12.

Last week, additional polling suggested that Tisza continues to outpace Fidesz, with results showing 50% support for Tisza compared to 38% for Fidesz. Earlier in March, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky expressed hope that a defeat for Orbán’s party could lead to improved relations between Hungary and Ukraine.

Polling data shows Viktor Orbán's Fidesz party gaining support at 39%, yet the opposition party Tisza leads with 53%. With elections approaching on April 12, predictions suggest a strong performance for Tisza, potentially reshaping Hungary's political landscape.
