Tragic Fire in Swiss Postal Bus Claims Six Lives

A fire broke out in a postal bus in the town of Kerzers, Switzerland, on the evening of March 10, resulting in the deaths of six individuals. Among the injured are four passengers and a rescue worker, with three of the injured reported to be in serious condition.

The incident occurred in the center of Kerzers, located in the canton of Fribourg, near the Swiss capital, Bern. Local police and the Swiss public broadcaster RTS confirmed the details of the tragedy.

Initially, the cause of the fire was unclear; however, authorities are now investigating the possibility of human involvement, suggesting a potential deliberate act. There are currently no indications of a terrorist motive. Police hope to gather more information through interviews with passengers, including those who were injured.

“Witness accounts suggest that one person deliberately started the fire,” stated police spokesperson Frédéric Papo.

Swiss President Guy Parmelin expressed condolences to the families of the victims, stating, “I am saddened and distressed that once again people have died in a severe fire in Switzerland. The circumstances of this tragedy are being investigated. I extend my sympathies to the relatives of those who perished in Kerzers, and I am thinking of the injured and the rescuers.”

This incident follows another tragic event earlier this year, when an explosion and subsequent fire at the Le Constellation bar in the ski resort of Crans-Montana resulted in approximately 40 fatalities and 116 injuries. That fire was believed to have been ignited by party sparklers attached to champagne bottles, which set off a blaze in the club’s soundproofing materials.

A fire in a postal bus in Kerzers, Switzerland, led to six fatalities and several injuries. Investigations suggest a possible deliberate act, with authorities seeking further information from witnesses.
