U.S. President Donald Trump indicated that the conflict with Iran may be approaching its conclusion, asserting that American military operations have significantly diminished Iran’s military capabilities after ten days of strikes.
In remarks to CBS News, Trump stated, “I think the war is almost completely over. They have no navy, no communication, and no air force.” He noted that the U.S. is ahead of its initial timeline for the operation, which was estimated to last four to five weeks.
Regarding the Strait of Hormuz, which has been a focal point in the conflict and a contributor to rising oil prices, Trump mentioned that ships are currently passing through, but he is considering taking control of the area.
Trump also cautioned Iran against further escalation, claiming that the country has already exhausted its resources. He commented on the recent appointment of Mojtaba Khamenei as Iran’s new supreme leader, stating, “I have no message for him,” while hinting at potential successors without providing further details.
The previous supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, who had led Iran for nearly four decades, was killed during U.S. and Israeli strikes on February 28 at the age of 86.
Initially predicting that strikes against Iran would last about four weeks, Trump later suggested the operation could extend as long as necessary. He explained that the objective of the strikes is to disrupt Iran’s nuclear program to prevent the development of nuclear weapons, a claim Iran has consistently denied, asserting its program is peaceful.
In retaliation for the U.S. and Israeli strikes, Iranian military forces have launched missile and drone attacks not only against Israel and U.S. military installations in the region but also against several neighboring countries considered allies of the United States.
