Ukrainian Hryvnia Hits Historic Low Against US Dollar

On March 10, 2023, the National Bank of Ukraine set the official exchange rate at 43.89 hryvnias per US dollar, marking a new historic low for the national currency. This adjustment follows a series of declines that have characterized the currency’s performance this month.

The hryvnia’s value dropped significantly, with the previous low recorded on March 4, when the exchange rate was set at 43.45 hryvnias per dollar. This decline represents the first time since January 2026 that the hryvnia has reached such a low point.

According to Bloomberg, trading on the Ukrainian interbank foreign exchange market concluded on March 9 at 43.93 hryvnias per dollar, indicating a continued downward trend. The fluctuations in the currency’s value reflect ongoing economic challenges faced by Ukraine.

Notably, on October 3, 2023, the exchange rate shifted for the first time since July 21, 2022, after maintaining a stable rate of 36.57 hryvnias per dollar for over 14 months. This change underscores the volatility in the currency market and the broader economic implications for Ukraine.

The Ukrainian hryvnia has reached a historic low against the US dollar, reflecting ongoing economic challenges. The recent fluctuations in the exchange rate highlight the instability in Ukraine's financial landscape.
