Ukrainian Bank Demands Return of Assets Seized by Hungary

Oschadbank, a major Ukrainian bank, has formally requested that the Hungarian government return assets it claims were unlawfully seized during a recent incident. The bank alleges that Hungary appropriated cash and armored vehicles on March 5, describing the act as tantamount to robbery.

While the Hungarian authorities have repatriated seven Ukrainian citizens who were detained, Oschadbank asserts that the seized assets—valued at approximately $40 million, €35 million, and nine kilograms of gold—remain in the possession of the Hungarian government without legal justification.

In response to the situation, Oschadbank has announced its intention to contest any restrictions imposed by Hungarian migration authorities on its cash transport team, who were reportedly held for over a day without access to legal counsel or consular support. The bank is particularly concerned about the treatment of its employees during this period.

The bank’s strategy includes pursuing the return of its seized property, which consists of two armored vehicles and the aforementioned valuables. Oschadbank maintains that it is confident in the legality of its actions and has submitted comprehensive documentation to the National Bank of Ukraine to support its claims.

To further bolster its legal position, the bank plans to consult with a leading international firm for additional guidance. Oschadbank’s firm stance reflects its commitment to resolving the issue through legal channels and ensuring the protection of its rights.

Oschadbank has demanded the return of assets it claims were unlawfully seized by Hungary, including cash and armored vehicles. The bank plans to challenge restrictions on its employees and consult with international legal experts to support its claims.
